Beware of the Musician's Cramp...

The majority of people believe that a famous musician career ends because they are getting to old or washed up. You know, like the saying "out with the old, in with the new." Well, in todays lessons, I have learned, became very interested, about a common neuromuscular disease. This disease is called focal hand dystonia and is more commonly known by "musicians cramp". Basically, someone with this disease has difficulty moving one finger from the others. Also, one or more fingers may twitch or go into a constant contraction. Also, on a side note focal hand dystonia is found in writer as well. Writer's are known to get "writer's cramp".
Can focal hand dystonia or Musician's cramp be cured? There is a not a correct answer to this, even though, they tried with hand surgeries and drug injection. Now, focal hand dystonia can be treated. With today's advance technology and bright scientist, they have identified  that brain reorganization was the problem. So, they treat the disease with vibration stimuli to the various hand muscles. As time goes by and the more discoveries physician make, they better help we can give to the musician's or writer's with this disease.
Check out this video about a musician in the rise and then he a tragic point in his career. Yes, he did get diagnose with focal hand dystonia but that did not stop him. In the video, you find that he is a very passionate man with love for music and his guitar.

Brace Yourself- Facebook is an Addiction

Nowadays, when people mention addiction the majority think of drugs and alcohol. Now, I am not implying that this is not important because it most definitely is. I just think that people need to evaluate and open their eyes and see the new bad habit society's younger generation have begun to encounter. Gambling, overeating, excessive video games these are a couple of habits many people seem to have difficult cutting down. Hate to break it to you but the same principles apply to this scenario. If you can't stop using cocaine; you're an addict. If you cant stop gambling; you're an addict.

The number 1 bad habit that seem to be hitting people these days, which I want to make more emphasis, is social networking. Millions of Americans have Facebook and plenty of people from outside the country have Facebook too. Facebook user's can spend hours on their web page and let the hours just pass by. What a waste of a day! Is this even healthy? I am sorry reader but if you have a Facebook and you spend hours on it everyday and you have to check on it almost every hour of the day; you're and addict.

I am not trying to get you to quick because a recent study claimed that for some, quitting Facebook was even more difficult than to quit smoking and to give up alcohol. Look at what the advance technologies have brought us too. Another study, sought students to go without media for 24hrs. There reactions resulted feeling such as angry, restless, panic, addicted, depressed, jittery and the list goes on.

Still not convinced that Facebook is an addiction? Own it because the signs all point to, yes it can be. We can still stay active in social networking. We just need to not be so crazy when we use it. The best thing to do is just limit yourself when dealing with the Internet. There is not need to be on the computer for than hour or two. Try not to update your Facebook status every five minutes. If you can't do this then...brace yourself because you have an addiction!

I have attached an article that goes into more detail about the different studies on students, check it out and give me your feedback.

Einstein Brain bigger that most! Why?

Since the famous Einstein passed away, many scientist have been bringing up the question "was size a factor to the fact that Einstein was a genius".  I am about a hundred percent sure that many people had study Einstein's brain and some discovered some interesting results. Gladly, to say that the researchers found that Einstein just had a big head and was not deformed like his mother suggested. In a recent video that I watched, neurologist, Douglas Fields, stated that an analyst found out that Einstein have more glia than, what people assumed, more neurons.

The brain has serval types of glia cells, all with different functions. Astrocytes, Microglia, Schwann cells, Oligodendrocytes, and many more are all types of glia. Now the analyst proposed that Einstein was a genius because of the severe amount of glia his brain contained. Which I think makes sense but has some slight confusion. Being that there are many types of glia the analyst fails to present which type Einstein had more of. The brain is going to consist of numerous glia cells because there are many types but my question is...was there a specific type of glia cell that Einstein's brain contain more of. This is a question that needs to be answered because we could be only one question away from finding the world's geniuses.

So fellow bloggers go ahead and comment and let me know what glia cell you think the famous wacko Albert Einstein brain contained more of. I am very interested in your thoughts.

Animal to Human Transplants vs Gods Image

Take a good look at the cartoon above and tell me that as frighten as the patients looks that you would of have felt the same way. As if animal testing is wrong already and now doctors want to put human parts inside of us! This is not the ideal way of the big man upstairs. Hello, have we forgotten about him?! Let me remind you about him, umm, his name is GOD. God would definitely not approve of this and would be ashamed that his children are now considering to use his loving animals as human parts.

Currently in my Physiological Psychology class we have been discussing the different debates between animal testing. My personal views over animal testing are more minimalist than abolitionist. Today, I want to bring up a more broad controversial debate over the idea of animal testing which involves the religious side of the debate. My catholic faith has been brought upon me since birth so the whole idea of living in God's image is the base or center of my way of life. Being that animal testing in frowned upon in the catholic church, it is still save to that with the help of animal testing medical research has exceeded many grand expectations. With that being said, that is why I have a minimalistic view over the topic but the talk of animal to human transplants is where I put my foot down and make a statement.

In the animal testing video that Dr. Brenham provided for us we learn that medical researcher are now starting to use pigs hearts in heart transplants. We are informed that pigs hearts are being considered in heart transplants because they are very close to identical to a human heart. I veto this act because this is just too extreme. Isn't testing and torturing the animals without consent enough already? Yes, use the pigs heart to study and improve heart disease but no I would not want a pigs heart in me. I apologize if what I say is offensive to some people but I am letting you know now that I mean to offend no one. But, brace yourself because here it is...We are created in the image of God and we are told that God makes no mistakes. We also need to understand that we humans can not live forever, unfortunately. With all this medical research and advance technology, we are just using it to alter God's vision. I understand and I am grateful with all the hard work and good outcomes that doctors, medical researcher, and whom ever else may fall under this category, but there is a limit and there is a point where enough is enough. I think personally that animal to human transplants is where we need to draw line.

I live you with this, we had the opportunity to live forever but our first parents (Adam & Eve) messed that up for us but that is another topic. Please comment love to hear your thoughts.
