Brace Yourself- Facebook is an Addiction
Nowadays, when people mention addiction the majority think of drugs and alcohol. Now, I am not implying that this is not important because it most definitely is. I just think that people need to evaluate and open their eyes and see the new bad habit society's younger generation have begun to encounter. Gambling, overeating, excessive video games these are a couple of habits many people seem to have difficult cutting down. Hate to break it to you but the same principles apply to this scenario. If you can't stop using cocaine; you're an addict. If you cant stop gambling; you're an addict.
The number 1 bad habit that seem to be hitting people these days, which I want to make more emphasis, is social networking. Millions of Americans have Facebook and plenty of people from outside the country have Facebook too. Facebook user's can spend hours on their web page and let the hours just pass by. What a waste of a day! Is this even healthy? I am sorry reader but if you have a Facebook and you spend hours on it everyday and you have to check on it almost every hour of the day; you're and addict.
I am not trying to get you to quick because a recent study claimed that for some, quitting Facebook was even more difficult than to quit smoking and to give up alcohol. Look at what the advance technologies have brought us too. Another study, sought students to go without media for 24hrs. There reactions resulted feeling such as angry, restless, panic, addicted, depressed, jittery and the list goes on.
Still not convinced that Facebook is an addiction? Own it because the signs all point to, yes it can be. We can still stay active in social networking. We just need to not be so crazy when we use it. The best thing to do is just limit yourself when dealing with the Internet. There is not need to be on the computer for than hour or two. Try not to update your Facebook status every five minutes. If you can't do this then...brace yourself because you have an addiction!
I have attached an article that goes into more detail about the different studies on students, check it out and give me your feedback.

i totally agree with you! Not only is facebook addicting by itself but then they add little games like "farmville". Its almost as if they want to keep you on their site forever. Some of my family members get so addicted they will excuse themselves for a moment just to farm. It is completely ridiculous. Sure its not a crime to look at it for awhile but all day on facebook? That cant be healthy. This new technology era is making us more unsocial and producing new additions.
ReplyDeleteI agree that social networking is very addictive for some people. I think i know someone who is on the verge of becoming an addict. They constantly check there twitter and Facebook account but I believe it will not be known as a problem until they cant go a week without checking and maybe even get angry and anxious about not looking at it all day. Social networking is very hard to get away from because of how much information is coming onto these sites. They aren't just used to communicate, but it is for advertising and games also. So what exactly are people to addicted to on Facebook?
